If you missed the news yesterday, Alabama Director of Athletics Greg Byrne told me he was staying at Alabama. That may come as a shock to some of you, not in the decision but in that there was a decision to be made.

Rumors circled over the past week that Texas A&M had interest in Byrne, whose father Bill, served as the Aggies’ AD from 2003-12. That connection alone set message boards aflame with the speculation that he might make a move within the conference. A&M has been without an athletic director for more than a month and the absence of information created a vacuum that potentially led to the spread of that rumor.
