TUSCALOOSA | Nearly four years ago, Nate Oats and Greg Byrne traveled south on a donor plane — a sometimes perk and often necessity for an athletic department when in the midst of a covert operation out of the public eye in an attempt to land a coach — bound for Tuscaloosa and an eventual press conference to welcome the Crimson Tide’s newest men’s basketball coach. Both wore hopeful smiles. Neither could’ve known where they were truly headed.
